Here we go. The home stretch. 2017 was a strange, stressful, and (for me, anyway) debilitating year. We can kick off its farewell party this weekend with a whole bunch of really big shows.
On Thursday night, Mogo The Band, Toy Cars, Haunt Club (first-ever show), and Sonic Blume are at AP Brewery. The Hold Steady are at Brooklyn Bowl for the second night of their four-show "Massive Nights" residency. Sunflower Bean and Beverly play Elsewhere in Brooklyn. Jacob Schaffer and David Ross Lawn play a free show at Langosta. Angel Olsen does her second night at The Town Hall in Manhattan. Sarah Shook & The Disarmers play Brooklyn's Union Pool.
MACK goes full band at The Asbury on Friday with Ernest and Meg Cannon. Tide Bends, SHUT UP!, and Mohican rock APYC. Shilpa Ray hits The Bell House with Bush Tetras and Eszter Balint. The Hold Steady are at Brooklyn Bowl. Angel Olsen moves over to Brooklyn for a sold-out show at Brooklyn Steel. The Vandsaders and latewaves head up to Hank's Saloon in Brooklyn for a show with Night Surf. The Menzingers are at House of Independents for the first of two sold-out shows. Millhill Basement in Trenton hosts Mr. Payday, Stuyvesant, The Brixton Riot and Molten. A. Savage of Parquet Courts headlines Monty Hall in JC. Todd Rundgren plays Red Bank's Count Basie.
Yawn Mower release their holiday EP on Saturday at APYC with help from Dentist and Wetbrain. The Hold Steady close out their stay at Brooklyn Bowl. House of Independents's big weekend continues with another sold-out Menzingers show. Our friends in High Pony hold their own album release party at Brooklyn's King Killer Studios with Two Inch Astronaut and Yazan. Lowlight are back at Pino's in Highland Park for a Puerto Rico fundraiser that also features The Nowhere, Daniel Illario & Company, Lesser Séamus, and Billy. Descendents come to Starland Ballroom with The Ergs! and Ruth Ruth. Morrissey plays The Theater at MSG.
It's a pretty packed Sunday with the Babes All Rock Fest at Baby's All Right. That one features A Deer A Horse, Big Quiet, Ex-Girlfriends, Fruit & Flowers, and many more. It benefits the Mount Sinai SAVI program which aids survivors of sexual assault. Also on Sunday, Iron Chic, Off With Their Heads, Mobina Galore, and Shellshag play Knitting Factory Brooklyn. The Ergs! close out the weekend at House of Independents with Exmaid, Nervous Triggers, and Weird Fantasy Band.
There is a ton to do this weekend. Get out and start kicking 2017 out the door. Don't drink and drive.
