Holiday Home Stretch
It's gettin down to it. We're on the third night of Hanukkah here at CDMHQ. I've had to miss a few shows because of holiday party obligations that are filling up the calendar. CoolDaughter #1 has the big, annual Holiday Classic swim meet at Rutgers starting tomorrow. And there are a lot of shows this weekend competing for time.
Yo La Tengo have brought back their eight-night Hanukkah party, and this year it's at Bowery Ballroom. It looks like there may be a few tickets for Thursday's performance, but that's it for the rest of the weekend. Also on Thursday, Randy Newman comes to Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank. Shamir, Partner, and Frances Rose play Brooklyn's Elsewhere. Ex-Girlfriends, TKR TKR, Sick Tic, and Tonya Harding are at The Footlight in Ridgewood Queens. Owel are at Knitting Factory Brooklyn with Northern Faces, The Rose Monarch, and King Neptune. Titus Andronicus play the recently re-opened and Market Hotel with Dinowalrus and Winstons. It's free hangs at The Saint with DJs Princes of Tides. Maggie Rose is at Wonder Bar with Rick Barry and Christina LaRocca. Pink Talking Fish -- a band that cover Pink Floyd, Talking Heads, and Phish apparently -- are at The Stone Pony.
On Friday night, Bobby Mahoney, Dave Mooney, and Ian Bamberger are at The Asbury. Lyons, Cold Fronts, and DJ Atom Worth celebrate the season at APYC. Guided By Voices play a sold-out Bell House in Brooklyn. Neil deGrasse Tyson does his thing at Asbury's Paramount. The Gutter Bar hosts Kino Kimino, Simon Doom, Drug Couple, and Debbie Downer in Brooklyn. It's "A Very Battery Christmas" at House of Independents when The Battery Electric bring the party along with Ribeye Brothers, The Vansaders, and Have A Good Season. Taking Back Sunday are at Starland. Quincy Mumford does his annual holiday show at The Stone Pony.
American Trappist are at APYC on Saturday night. Big Bliss play Brooklyn Bazaar with Ian Deaton, Picture One, and Cloak. The Front Bottoms bring their annual "Champagne Jam" to Asbury Park's Convention Hall with AJJ, The Districts, White Reaper, Slaughter Beach Dog, American Trappist, and more. Little Dickman Records and Paper Cup Music host a holiday party at Brooklyn's Our Wicked Lady featuring Dentist, Lost Boy ?, Native Sun, and Thundera. Taking Back Sunday are back at Starland, this time with The Maine and Modern Chemistry. Bone & Marrow, The Porchistas, and Nylund play the annual Tierney's holiday party in Montclair.
Brooklyn Bazaar hosts Tall Juan, Stuyedeyed, and Fruit & Flowers on Sunday. Trophy Eyes are at House of Independents with Free Throw and Head North. It's a special Sunday edition of music in the Transparent Clinch Gallery at The Asbury with New Star, Avery Rose, Chris Rockwell, and more.
