Makin Waves Celebrates 30 Years This Saturday, 3/31, At Wonder Bar

Makin Waves

This Saturday, March 31st, long-running, Jersey-focused music column "Makin Waves" will celebrate 30 years with an all-day party at Asbury Park's Wonder Bar. The event runs from 2pm to 2am, and it will be a showcase of three generations of Asbury Park and New Jersey music.

"Baby boomers, generation X, and millennials all will come together for a great time that also will salute the history of the beloved Asbury Park boardwalk with a free Wheel of Chance for absolutely awesome sponsor prizes," says Bob Makin, author of the long-running column.

I interviewed Makin last year when he kicked off this run of 30th anniversary shows. Saturday's show will be the capper to the yearlong celebration.

Bands slated to perform include Deal Casino, LEEDS, Williams Honor, Colossal Street Jam, The Vansaders, Nalani & Sarina, Karen Mansfield, and an all-star Upstage jam fronted by Paul Whistler and featuring Vini Lopez, Joe Petillo, Billy Ryan, John Mulrenan, and more.

Whistler says he always relishes the opportunity to get together with "so many wonderful musicians celebrating and sharing friendships, roots, history, tradition, the music and the mojo that is the true heart of Asbury Park."

There's an absolutely insane amount of stuff going on at this show including special guests, Wheel of Chance prizes, and a sheet cake supplied by event sponsor Confections of a Rock$tar.

Check out the event listing for the many, many details and be sure to check out the still-running "Makin Waves" at The Aquarian Weekly, New Jersey Stage, NJArts.net, or AsburyMusic.com.

Tickets for the event are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. $2 from each ticket will go to support Asbury Park Music Foundation and Boys & Girls Club of Monmouth County.

Congratulations to Bob Makin and "Makin Waves." I've gotten to know Bob pretty well over the last couple of years, and he is a truly dedicated supporter of New Jersey music.
