Premiere: The Brixton Riot Cover Echo & The Bunnymen for Mint 400 At the Movies Compilation. Playing Wonder Bar on 8/27.

"Bring on the Dancing Horses"

On August 31st, our friends at Mint 400 Records will be releasing a compilation double album called At the Movies. The comp was almost 2 years in the making and brings together members of the Mint 400 artist roster along with friends of the label (Jersey Beat's Jim Testa, The Extensions, Of Love's Erin Lockett) to cover songs written for or featured prominently in films. The resulting collection spans Indie Rock, Folk, and even Gypsy Jazz.

Today, we're bringing you the video for the entry from The Brixton Riot. The band took on Echo & The Bunnymen's 80s-Alternative stone classic "Bring on the Dancing Horses" from the Pretty in Pink soundtrack.

Brixton Riot guitarist / frontman, Jerry Lardieri, shares, "We spent a lot of time going through movie soundtracks trying to find the right song. We came very close to doing Pat Benatar's 'Invincible' and even closer to doing 'Call Me' by Blondie, but 'Bring On The Dancing Horses' was a much better fit. We've got some big Echo & The Bunnymen fans in the band so it was an easy sell.

Simply hearing a song can immediately take you back to a specific scene in a film. It's probably a big reason why movie soundtracks still remain popular. They're able to take a series of completely unrelated songs -- sometimes from entirely different genres -- and weave them together into a new narrative."

The Brixton Riot's version of "Bring on the Dancing Horses" remains faithful to the original, while still slotting in nicely with the loud power pop that makes up the rest of The Brixton Riot catalog. The video is a simple yet extremely well-done performance clip that captures the inherent coolness of the song. It was shot and directed by Brixton Riot drummer Matt Horutz. Dana Serao handled the editing, and Michael Prince and Eric Dubnoff did crane work.

Check out the video below, and look for At the Movies on August 31st. You can catch The Brixton Riot live this coming Monday, August 27th, when they play Wonder Bar in Asbury Park with The Anderson Council and Ruby Dear as part of the free Happy Mondays Series.

And, hey, maybe keep your eyes peeled here for more from At the Movies over the next week or so.
