New Single From England’s The Magic Es

"Splinters"

By Henry Lipput

"Splinters," the new single from The Magic Es, is an out-and-out head-bobbing, toe-tapping rocker.

The band, Pete Thompson (vocals/guitar), Jasper Stainthorpe (bass) and Stuart Catchpole (drums) released their debut album, It Goes On, in 2017. It became my favorite album from that year. Since then, they've generated a string of terrific singles including my favorite singles release from 2018 "Nothing In Your Way." They're, right now, working on their second album to be released later this year (which I'm really looking forward to hearing). And, to borrow a phrase from a four-piece band from Liverpool, The Magic Es are "getting better all the time."

On "Splinters," Stainthorpe and Catchpole are doing some of their best work as they ratchet up the backbeat and lay a firm foundation for the fine rhythm and lead guitar work from Thompson. The lyrics are about finding someone to help you through a world that seems to be falling apart. It's a great tune, and Thompson's strong vocal is all about discovering and making that connection.

"Splinters" is now available from your favorite digital vendor.
