First Preview Track from Screaming Females Live at The Hideout

"Lights Out"

When Yo La Tengo headed off to rock school, one of their instructors (played by Bob Odenkirk) informed them of "The Foghat Rule." The rule states that "Your fourth album should be double-live." Well, Screaming Females missed that class, I guess. They're turning in their assignment a little late, but I'm sure it will be worth the wait.

I happen to think that the band's fifth full-length, 2012's Ugly, came pretty darn close to capturing the energy and abandon of the band's live shows, but those who disagree will soon have a full-fledged live album, the band's sixth LP (double), to add to their collections.

Recorded at Chicago's Hideout by Steve Albini, Live at The Hideout captures the band's two-night stint at the venue at the end of January. It should be an excellent document of why Marissa Paternoster is one of the best rock and roll guitarists working today and of just how important the rhythm section of King Mike and Jarrett D is to the band's overall sound.

The record comes out on Don Giovanni Records on April 8th, and pre-orders started today. Head over to Don Giovanni Records for all the details. The first 200 hard-copy pre-orders come with a unique photographic print of the band.

Screaming Females and Don Giovanni have also given us the first preview of the double-LP with Power Move track and seven-and-a-half minute live burner "Lights Out."

Here's a fun activity: Spend the four days between Live at The Hideout's release and Screaming Females' appearance at Asbury Lanes on April 12th w/ Shellshag in support of The Julie Ruin listening to the record. Then, come out to the show and compare notes.
