When Yo La Tengo headed off to rock school, one of their instructors (played by Bob Odenkirk) informed them of "The Foghat Rule." The rule states that "Your fourth album should be double-live." Well, Screaming Females missed that class, I guess. They're turning in their assignment a little late, but I'm sure it will be worth the wait.
I happen to think that the band's fifth full-length, 2012's Ugly, came pretty darn close to capturing the energy and abandon of the band's live shows, but those who disagree will soon have a full-fledged live album, the band's sixth LP (double), to add to their collections.
Recorded at Chicago's Hideout by Steve Albini, Live at The Hideout captures the band's two-night stint at the venue at the end of January. It should be an excellent document of why Marissa Paternoster is one of the best rock and roll guitarists working today and of just how important the rhythm section of King Mike and Jarrett D is to the band's overall sound.
