Surfer Blood at The Saint Tonight

Come Think Warm

I've mentioned several times that CoolDaughter #1 swims competitively. Every time we drive to a meet she has me put on Surfer Blood's single "Swim" to get her psyched up for the event. Tonight, the West Palm Beach band comes to The Saint in support of their 2013 major-label debut, Pythons.

I almost feel bad for them. We woke up to 12 degrees here this morning which, I'm guessing, is a little colder than these guys are used to. Good for us, though. It should be a great evening of surf pop punk that will make everyone think about just how nice it will be to live so close to the beach in just a few months.

Kanine Records, the label that released Surfer Blood's 2010 debut, Astro Coast, which contains CD1's favorite song and was kind of a listening staple for me that year, will be releasing an alternate version of the band's latest album for Record Store Day 2014. Rumor has it that the limited edition, vinyl-only Pythons Demos is a harder edged version of Pythons that Warner Brothers initially rejected in favor of a poppier sound. Should be interesting to see which versions of songs like "Demon Dance" we get to hear tonight.

If you're at The Saint tonight, come find me. I should be up front taking pictures. I'll buy you a beverage.
