Shellshag (and Marissa Paternoster) Forever
Yesterday, I was still reeling from the corporate crapfest that was the 56th Grammy Awards. Then, the mail came. It brought with it the debut LP by Shellshag, Destroy Me I'm Yours. Included in my package was a lovely and personal handwritten note from Shell and Jen thanking me for my purchase. My faith restored in music, I went through the rest of my day with a little smile on my face. Really.
Then, I woke up this morning to the sad news that we'd lost Pete Seeger. It's not like I sit around all day listening to folk music, but Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie are two of the people who have always made me feel proud to be an American. Pete Seeger inspired some of my favorite artists like Bruce Springsteen and Billy Bragg, so I was feeling a little down.
Shellshag to the rescue again.
John and Jen released the pilot episode of their new TV show, Shellshonic Shag-O-Vision, today. Their first guest is Screaming Females' Marissa Paternoster. Watch their in-depth interview to hear Marissa confess that the guitar is not, in fact, her first love. Hear acoustic covers of Sinéad O'Connor / Prince, Liz Phair, and The Jam. Listen to Marissa sing the Buster Brown theme song.
Then, go out and enjoy your day.
