Emily Grove celebrates the release of her latest CD tonight at The Stone Pony. |
March isn't quite going out like a lamb this year. Maybe a ram. Or an ornery goat. At any rate, there are a few things this weekend that should help with your seasonal affective disorder.
Asbury Lanes has hardcore vets Sick Of It All tonight. It looks like the show may be sold out; so, if you were planning on going, I hope you've got your tickets. If you missed out on the big show at The Lanes, though, you could always check out garage rockers Prehistoric Forest along with Those Modern Cavemen for free at Asbury Park Yacht Club or head next door to Langosta Lounge for Von Mons and BaBabes. Singer / songwriter Emily Grove will be celebrating the release of her latest, The Life of a Commoner, over at The Stone Pony.
Saturday features another big show at The Lanes with Brooklyn's I Am The Avalanche, while The Brigantines bring their surf rock to The Yacht Club and Thomas Wesley Stern play Langosta. Point Pleasant's Snowball 37 head to Clash Bar in Clifton.
I also wanted to mention that Asbury Lanes will be hosting a free movie premiere of "True To This," which is the story of Volcom, America's First Boarding Company, on Sunday at 6pm. The show is all ages and features music by Asbury Park's Wreaths, whose latest LP I reviewed a few days ago.
Go check a few things out and have some fun as you get psyched for Monday's MLB Opening Day.
UPDATE: Totally forgot to mention the excellent show at Monmouth University's Pollak Theater tomorrow night at 8pm, featuring Marshall Crenshaw, David Johansen, and Allison Moorer. Head over to Speak Into My Good Eye and check out Tom Chesek's fantastic interview with Mr. Crenshaw.
