Those Mockingbirds help out Brick + Mortar at Asbury Lanes on Saturday. |
Post-Leftover Listings
So I was gonna finish this up yesterday, but then I figured there probably weren't any shows on Thanksgiving anyway. If there were, I didn't want to be a party to the over-consumerizaton of our culture by encouraging you or the performers to take time away from their families to attend shows. I held off, therefore, on completing the listings until today. Actually, I just got busy...
Anyway, after leftovers, there's plenty to do starting Friday. Deal Casino, The Amboys, We're Ghosts Now and Semiotics are at The Brighton. Little Dickman / CoolDad Music holiday benefit performers Ms. America join Darkwing, Holloweyed, and Dabbler at The Meat Locker in Montclair. Splintered Sunlight are at The Stone Pony. You can hear Alien Ant Farm cover "Smooth Criminal" at The Wonder Bar. They get help from Chris Rockwell and The Stickball Social Club, Stars In Stereo, Joy Ride, and Kiirsten Marilyn.
UPDATE: I always forget something. This time it's the Mayflower Collective's "Second Thanksgiving" on Friday at Red Bank Rehearsal. The Moms, On Your Marks, Batten Down The Hatches, Have a Good Season, Teenage Halloween, more.
You can get started early on Saturday with a trip to Wall's Village Coffee in the afternoon for "A Folk Punk Thanksgiving" presented by The Clef. They're trying to get a nice turnout for this one in order to keep these types of shows going at Village Coffee. KENYA are at The Court Tavern with Hank & Cupcakes, Crime Alert, and our friends Dollys. Christine Martucci plays The Wonder Bar. The F.L.OW. are at The Saint.
Also on Saturday, Toms River's Brick + Mortar do a homecoming show at Asbury Lanes. Joining them on the bill are Montclair's Those Mockingbirds and Johnny B. Morbid.
Modern Chemistry come to The Brighton on Sunday with Black Sox Scandal, The Catching, and The 5th Down. The Rail House in Rahway hosts the last of its "Soft Sounds" shows with a stacked lineup.
I hope you had a great holiday, and I hope it's a great holiday weekend. Enjoy your family if they're still around. College kids get back to school and get after it. You're in the home stretch.
