The Battery Electric, The Heart and The Thrill

Two Days Only

A great American philosopher once said:

You might have heard I run with a dangerous crowd.
We ain't too pretty. We ain't too proud.
We might be laughin' a bit too loud.
Aw, but that never hurt no one.

I thought about those words from that Long Island sage as I listened to the latest effort from Asbury Park's Laird's-soaked, denim-clad party rockers, The Battery Electric. The Heart and The Thrill, for which the band once again worked with The Bouncing Souls' Pete Steinkopf at Little Eden Studios, is a 14-track tour through the many influences at play in the, ultimately, pure rock and roll sound of The Battery Electric. Many of the tracks here have been put through their paces live and road tested as staples in The Battery Electric's set.

The band are on the run on the relentless "Heathen." They threaten to "take your girls away" on "Key Party." They weave a dark tale of a killer embroiled in a car chase with the law on "Dead Man's Trunk." They get forlorn and soulful on "Does He Love You?" In the end, though, The Battery Electric are about "The Heart and The Thrill" of creating music and bringing it to the people.

And that's the main thing here. For all of their hair-tossing bravado, fist-pumping machismo, and blistering guitar solos, The Battery Electric are a band that cares. They care about putting on a show that gets the crowd fist-pumping and hair-tossing right along with them. They care about the other bands and other people in the scene. They care enough to work hard and to practice and to play weekend after weekend so that they can put out a record that does justice to their soul-baring live performance.

The Battery Electric may do a bit of drinking. The Battery Electric may have called you a pussy from the stage for hanging back at the bar and not dancing. But The Battery Electric love you. The Battery Electric would go to the mattresses for you. The Battery Electric have poured their blood and sweat into a record that goes about as far as it can go at capturing the feeling of a summer night in a tiny bar out on the boardwalk, its doors open to the salt air and the surf, as denim-clad audience members ride on top of the tightly packed crowd with a look of pure joy on their face.

At first glance, The Battery Electric may seem dangerous. But they've never hurt anybody. They just want everyone to have a good time. They're doing their part to make sure that happens.

Get an early peek at The Heart and The Thrill below for the next two days. Head over to Asbury Lanes on Saturday, February 21st, for the release show that also features Deal Casino, Black Wail, The Von Mons, and Frankenstein 3000 to get your early copy. After Saturday, the stream and the records are gone; but you can always pre-order The Heart and The Thrill from Little Dickman Records. The Heart and The Thrill officially drops and becomes available to the world on March 10th.
