Summer (Officially) and Cooldads

At 12:39pm on Sunday, June 21st, it will officially be summer here on the East Coast. It's also Father's Day so raise a glass to all the cooldads out there. The official dawn of summer also means that things get serious on the show front. Just this week, with CoolMom out of the country, there was something every night that I would have loved to cover. She's back at the end of this week, so I'll be out there again.

Things get started on Thursday with the Pusher Pedals launch party at Wonder Bar. Hot Blood (less than a week off of the craziness at APYC), Execütors, and Hurricane In Mink lead the celebration. Cranston Dean releases Sarajevo at The Saint with Dylan Sevey & The Gentlemen, Colton Kayser, and Hawking. The Blithedale Romance play Court Tavern with True Will, Killer Waves, Tomato Dodger, and Professor Caveman. Archie Alone are at Clash Bar with Basement Beers and Help Me Help You. King Pizza Records' Pizza Fest kicks off its weekend in Brooklyn. It runs through Saturday and features The Rizzos, Ghost Punch, St. James & The Apostles, Sun Voyager, Greasy Hearts, Crazy Pills, Psychiatric Metaphors, and more.

Lots of tough, tough choices on Friday Night. Tim Barry is back at Asbury Lanes with Northcote and Allison Weiss. Roy Orbitron play their last show for a while before heading into the studio. They're joined at APYC by Baltimore's Community Center. Microfossils, Stained Glass, Ba Babes, and The Von Mons are at Brighton Bar. Overlake, Dentist, and The Yin Yangs are in Bayonne at Lot 13. Against ME! are at Starland with Frankiero and The Cellabration. The Kooks play an apparently sold-out Stone Pony. Chemtrail are at The Saint.

Friday also brings us the long-awaited release of dollys' Oh, Please at New Brunswick's Court Tavern. It's been a long time coming; and the party will also feature Deal Casino, Rocky Catanese and The Chapter, ROMP, and The Vaughns.

Things don't get any easier on Saturday. Two more record release shows are happening. Lost In Society play Anchor's Bend for their own record release party with help from The Obvious and Chris Brown. Corrina, Corrina celebrate their new flexi disc at Red Bank Rehearsal with Have A Good Season, ROMP, On Your Marks, and Halogens. Moon Motel, The Vansaders, and Matt Brown play for free at APYC; while Nicole Atkins plays a free show next door at Langosta. CJ Ramone and Shonen Knife are at The Brighton. GayGuy / StraightGuy play Sex Toy Bingo at The Lanes. Ghost Camp, The Stewart Dolly, Silver Screen, and Slingshot play a no cover show at Tumulty's in Bruns.

Also on Saturday, Dark City Entertainment rings in the summer with Dentist, Vomitface, Long Faces, The Villanelles, and Ba Babes. Vomitface don't make it down this way too often, and I recommend you try to check them out if you can.

Deal Casino continue their free residency at APYC on Sunday. It's Make Music Montclair Day up there with a great free show featuring Lake Effect, The Great Depression, Psychiatric Metaphors, and more. Chris Brown is joined by his dad, Charlie Brown, for a special Father's Day set from 1-4pm at Anchor's Bend.

Happy summer. Happy Father's Day to all the cooldads. And thanks so much to the wonderful CoolMom and the CoolDaughters. Without them, I wouldn't be a dad; and I most definitely wouldn't be cool.
