Asbury Underground / CMJ
Lots of chances to see lots of our favorite bands this weekend. Between Asbury Underground and CMJ, you'll be able to check out just about every act we've ever mentioned here and then some.
Things get started on Thursday night when former Everyman, Stephen Chopek, is back in NJ for a set at Montclair's Groov Cafe. Joseph Arthur is at The Saint with Accidental Seabirds' Jesse Lee and Danny White. Our friends at Speak Into My Good Eye host their official CMJ showcase and 24-Hour Songwriting Challenge Compilation release at Brooklyn's Littlefield with Mount Sharp, A Deer A Horse, Deal Casino, Vivid Dreams, and Julian Fulton.
On Friday, Ribeye Brothers and Von Mons are back at APYC for a free show. Semiotics, Milkmen, steve., Alaska, and The Bad Bees are at New Brunswick's Paradise: Lost. Mayday Parade hit Starland (presented by Hot Topic). The Dear Hunter (not Deerhunter) are at The Stone Pony with openers Chon and New Brunswick's gates. Fortunate Youth come to Wonder Bar.
I'll be up in Brooklyn on Friday for my umpteenth go-round with Titus Andronicus. Spider Bags and Ex Hex, whom I've been itching to see, are also on that bill at Warsaw. When that's over, I'll hopefully have time to catch some of the Sugar Mama BK / Little Dickman Records CMJ showcase with Dead Stars, The Battery Electric, Sharkmuffin, Dentist, Dinowalrus, No Ice, and Black Flamingos.
Asbury Underground is back in downtown Asbury Park on Saturday. The free event starts at noon and features performances from Nicole Atkins, Dentist, Chris Brown, Doug Zambon, Zach Moyle, Deal Casino, Allie Moss & Rick Barry, Renee Maskin, Tony Tedesco, and many more. Also on Saturday, Accidental Seabirds, The Dawn Drapes, and The Porchistas play APYC for free. Wreckless Eric is at Jersey City's Monty Hall. Our friends in Hot Blood travel to Warren to help Night Birds with their record release at Warren American Legion along with Execütors, Nervous Triggers, No Parole, and Future Damage. Grindhaüs has David Dondero, Teenage Halloween, Lunch Ladies, Ankle Grease, and Krissanthemum.
On Sunday, Bands on the Boardwalk continues at Pier Village in Long Branch with Toy Cars and 18th & Addison. Puppy Grease, El Noordzo, The Godlings, and Spoken Bird are at The Saint.
