The Final Turn (and Happy Chanukah!)
We made it. We're in the home stretch of 2015, but the year has lots of life left in her yet. If this week is any indication, then 2015 will not go quietly.
On Thursday night, Smalltalk leave the friendly confines of New Jersey for the very first time, venturing up to Brooklyn's Acheron for a show with Tournament, Pale Angels, and Fortunate Ones. Wake Up Paradise are at The Saint. The reunited Weston, the band James Alex was in before Beach Slang, play one of their only three Northeast dates at Wonder Bar with Digger.
Friday brings Lyons and Stained Glass to APYC for a free show. Hub City Stompers are at Brighton Bar with Duffy's Cut and Death In The Arena. Acid head up to New Brunswick to play Court Tavern with Felon, Barbecue Bob and The Spareribs, The Cynz, and The Turnbucklers. Vacation are at New Brunswick's In The West with Casual, Year Of Glad, Glazer, and GULPS. Overlake return home to Jersey City for a show at Lucky 7 with Pioneer The Eel and SHRB. Grace Potter comes to Asbury's Paramount with Oh Whitney. Up in Hoboken, Mitski, Cayetana, Sharkmuffin, and Dog Island play a show at Stevens.
Also on Friday, Emily Kinney comes back to Asbury Park. Since her exit from AMC's The Walking Dead, Kinney has focused on her musical career; and she brings her show to the new, downtown House of Independents.
On Saturday, Smalltalk continue their tour of places that are not Asbury Park when they head to The Funhouse in Jersey City to play with Crazy & The Brains and Desir Decir. Tragedy, whose last scheduled appearance in Asbury was a casualty of a noreaster, come back to play a free show in the Grand Arcade. Black Flamingos head up to NYC for a show at Otto's Shrunken Head. gods head to Brooklyn's Shea Stadium to play with our friends in BOYTOY along with The Mystery Lights and Sun Abduction. The Saint hosts two shows: Toby Lightman and Nalani & Sarina early, Low Cut Connie and The Battery Electric late. Nicole Atkins, who's leaving us for Nashville, presents her Holiday Spectacular at The Stone Pony with Marco Benevento and Deal Casino.
Sunday is pretty busy for a Sunday. El Noordzo bring their eclectic set to Asbury Festhalle and Biergarten. Avenues and The Black Sox Scandal hit Brighton Bar. Steve Forbert does an in-store at Jack's in Red Bank. Life Of Agony are at Starland.
Everyone's calendars start to fill up with end of year and holiday activities, but you can always make time for a show. I'll see you out there.
Oh, and Chanukah starts on Sunday night! The CoolDaughters are excited. Wishing a happy and peaceful holiday to all who celebrate. Have some latkes for me. Love those things.
