Mothers from Athens, GA are back in Asbury at Wonder Bar on Thursday. |
So last weekend was kind of a white-out bust. I hope everyone made out OK. You're probably all itching for something to do, and there's plenty this weekend.
Things get started with a free viewing of the latest video from Jon Caspi & The First Gun at Brighton Bar. The track is "Sun" and features Dez Cadena of Black Flag / Misfits / FLAG. Caspi and Bomb Shelter Dropouts will provide live music. Up in Jersey City, Black Wail, Risk Relay, and The Described Mouth play The Citizen. Dark City hosts another free Funk & Soul Thursday at Red Bank's Downtown with Shady Street Show Band.
Also on Thursday, Athens, Georgia's Mothers play Wonder Bar with AMFMS. Mothers last came through when they opened for Of Montreal at Asbury Lanes and impressed. Kristine Leschper's haunting voice was a highlight. Also on Thursday's bill are locals Yawn Mower and ROMP.
On Friday, ROMP are at it again. This time they play New Brunswick's BoMA with Mischief Brew, The Holy Mess, Alyssa Kai, and Teenage Halloween. The Saint hosts We Used To Cut The Grass, Daughter Vision, Loud Zoo, IS, and Sounds Del. Lakewood's Strand Theatre does a David Bowie Salute featuring lots of familiar names including The Sunday Blues, Emily Grove, Sal Boyd, Renee Maskin, and more. The Vansaders head to Trenton's Millhill Basement for a show with Honah Lee and The Lamplighters. Man Dancing holds the release show for Everyone Else at Naner Manor in NB with Joe Galuppo, Fire Is Motion, LKFFCT, Gabriella, and Milkmen. Indigo Girls are at Count Basie.
Lunch Ladies play Deal's AK-47 on Saturday with Subcultures, Liv Lombardi, Reflowered Girlz, and The Great American Satan. Accidental Seabirds head up to The Citizen for a show with Papermaker and The Penniless Loafers. Lakehouse Music Academy puts on its winter Big Gig over two days at House of Independents. Matt O'Ree Band is at Maxwell's Tavern in Hoboken. Lowlight play New Brunswick's Old Bay Restaurant with Original Text, The Highland Society, and Lilly Black. It's punk night at The Saint with Lethal Aggression, Mental Abuse, TV Tramps, and Kojak Moment. The re-scheduled Panic State Records 7th anniversary celebration takes place at Starland. Shady Street Show Band play Wonder Bar. Desir Decir, The Snails, and Matty Carlock play Porta JC.
Noise In The Attic hosts a benefit for Move For Hunger at Inkwell Coffee House on Sunday. That one's got Francis Lombardi, Dan Apy, Alex English, Ben Resnick, and Riley Schiro. Tony Tedesco & Full Fathom 5, David & Valerie Mayfield, and The Bluegrass Sweethearts play a low dough show at The Saint. Bruce brings his sold-out River Tour to Newark's Prudential Center.
Try to get out there for something. If you see me, come say hi and we can split a root beer.
