Joe Michelini Is American Trappist. Releasing New Music. APYC Residency This Summer.

River City Extension bowed out in November of 2015.

A "Post-Mortem Exhale" in Three Parts

This past Thanksgiving Eve, River City Extension played their farewell show at the Stone Pony and closed an important chapter in the story of New Jersey music. In the band's farewell announcement, there were promises of new musical endeavors for everyone including frontman Joe Michelini. Michelini has now announced his latest project, American Trappist.

American Trappist, which Michelini says draws on influences like Timber Timbre and Angel Olsen, will release a three-part cycle of EPs beginning with In Satan's Kingdom National Park on June 1st via Michelini's Death Salon Records. A free release show on June 1st at Asbury Park Yacht club will accompany the record. That show will also serve as a kickoff to American Trappist's summer residency at APYC, running every Wednesday in the summer through August 31st. Admission to all of those shows is FREE.

On June 4th, Michelini's new hometown of Philadelphia gets its own release show at Ortlieb's Lounge.

Later in the summer, American Trappist will follow In Satan's Kingdom... with On The River Toms on July 6th and Hannah Future Tense on August 3rd. Michelini promises varying line-ups and arrangements on each release, saying that American Trappist's live performances will serve as "an accessory" to the project's recorded output.

River City Extension were always important to this site, and much of that had to do with Michelini as a songwriter. It will be interesting to see where things go from here.
