What's Going On: 5/19, 5/20, 5/21 & 5/22, 2016

Getting Back Out There

Tomorrow, CoolMom returns from her latest sojourn around the capitals of Europe. That means we're all together again at CDMHQ, and I get to go check out some shows. Tonight, I'll be watching CoolDaughter #2 and her fellow chorists sing our national anthem before the Blueclaws game. Come meet us for Thirsty Thursday at the ballpark or head out to one of the other things going on.

Overlake and Basic Bitches kick of their mini tour at Jersey City's Citizen on Thursday with Lines In The Sky. ROMP, Weller, steve., and Love Underwater are at New Brunswick's Nowhere USA. Louis CK plays the first of three shows this week at The Paramount in Asbury. All are sold out except for the late show on Friday night. Good Luck Spaceman, whose EP we premiered here last week, are at The Saint with Ehiorobo, Dolphin Uppercut Avenger, and Offtop.

Deal's AK-47 hosts its last-ever show on Friday night with the return of Maeby Funk along with YJY, Secret Mountain, Debt League, and Fortune Yeller. Goodbye Tiger, Toy Cars, and dollys are at APYC. Dino's on Main hosts an evening of poetry and spoken word featuring our own Allyson Dwyer, our good friend Tara Tomaino, and more. Louis CK does two sets at The Paramount. Again, only the late one is available. Invisible Familiars are back at The Saint with The Tide Bends, Canoe Club, and VoirVoir. Sebastian Bach is at Starland. Taylor Tote Band headlines The Stone Pony with help from Wyland and SØF. John Rafferty plays the NJ release show for his King of New York at Val's Tavern in Rumson.

Saturday night brings The Vansaders to APYC along with Mack and Dentist. The Murder Junkies bring their 25th Anniversary Farewell Tour to Brighton Bar. The Milwaukees play Maxwell's Tavern to honor the late Dave Post. The Saint hosts an evening of rock and poetry with Jared Paul, Chris Rockwell, Deff Ray, and more. Semiotics, Wicked Hollow, Wisteria, Tracy Stone, and early morning adventure play a free show at New Brunswick's Scarlet Pub. Asbury's Showroom and the Asbury Lanes family host the New Jersey premiere of The Yard Dogs Road Show documentary. There's a block party all along Bangs Avenue during the day. The Figgs and The Upper Crust play Monty Hall in Jersey City.

Deal Casino continue their spring / summer residency at APYC on Sunday. Jennifer Rositano, who just opened a new music instruction studio in Asbury, plays a classical brunch at Langosta.

And, finally, all weekend long is the Jersey Shore Festival down in Seaside Heights. There are over 300 musical acts performing at various venues throughout the town, and you're sure to see some familiar names or find something new. As always, all of the Jersey Shore Festival events are free.

It's a big weekend, and I've got a big early week ahead of me. I hope to see you somewhere.
