Shut Your Mouth and Eat Your Cake... ...Mom!
Record releases, Mother's Day, and lots of shows. I hear the sun may even come out, but I'm not holding my breath.
Things kick off with a bang on Thursday night as GayGuy / StraightGuy celebrate the release of their debut full-length, Shut Your Mouth and Eat Your Cake, at Asbury's House of Independents. Joining the party are The Battery Electric, Dentist, The Black Clouds, and Yawn Mower.
Also on Thursday, The Moms, The Big Easy, and Sink Tapes play a show at Jersey City's Citizen. Los Pocos Locos play (and host a live bullfight) for free at Langosta. Philly's very awesome Sheer Mag play Monty Hall in Jersey City along with Nude Beach and Lame Drivers.
On Friday, Des and The Swagmatics play a free show at APYC where they will be paying tribute to Prince. The XMen, Frankenstein 3000, and more play Brighton Bar. Hot Blood head up to JC to play The Citizen with Man On Fire, d'arcy, and Life Eaters. Legs McNeill and Gillian McCain come to House of Independents to discuss their book Please Kill Me: The Uncensored Oral History of Punk in honor of its 20th anniversary. My alma mater, NYU, hosts their annual Strawberry Festival on LaGuardia Place with Mitski, Porches, Beach Fossils, and more starting at 12:30pm. Born Ruffians play Monty Hall.
The Asbury Park Bazaar returns to Convention Hall on Saturday with music from Frank Lombardi, Joe Makoviecki, Joshua Mark, and Dan Waszay. The Clydes, The Paper Jets, and more are at Court Tavern. Venusfest at Newark's Index Art Center features music from IDES, Rita Fishbone, Abi Reimold, and more. Modern Chemistry play an EP release show at APYC with The Vaughns and Bobby Mahoney. BADFISH are at Jenks Club in Point Pleasant with Backyard Superheroes and StoneBaby. Smiths / Morrissey tribute band, The Sons & Heirs, play Asbury's Paramount. Our friends over at Speak Into My Good Eye present the Lost Romance single release show at Maxwell's Tavern in Hoboken. Also on that bill are Gillian, John Faye & Those Meddling Kids, and Dr. Beardface & The Spacemen.
On Sunday night, We're Ghosts Now, Fun While You Wait, and more hit Brighton Bar. Molly Ringwald does two sets at House of Independents. Renee Maskin, Steve Kelly, Joe Galuppo, and more do the Mother's Day solo showcase at New Brunswick's Scarlet Pub.
