What's Going On: 6/16, 6/17, 6/18 & 6/19, 2016

Two great, free shows for you this weekend!

School's Out For Summer

It's the cooldaughters' penultimate day of school today. They're excited. I'm looking forward to what I believe will be slightly less shuttling them from place to place for a few months. There are lots of ways for you to celebrate this weekend, including two shows that CoolDad Music has a hand in presenting.

On Thursday night, the weekly open mic at The Asbury Hotel rolls on with Chris Brown in the Sound Booth Bar. Sink Tapes, Glazer, Joy Cleaner, and Whiner play at Newark's Kilkenny Ale House. After The Fall, City Limits, SICK SHIT, and Friction 57 play Millhill Basement in Trenton.

Discontent and Dirty featuring Jay Monday play APYC for free on Friday. Arrows In Her, Invalids, The Refectory, ManDancing and Fire Is Motion are at The Citizen in Jersey City. Predator Dub Assassins play Langosta. There's a Van Morrison tribute at The Stone Pony.

Also on Friday, Little Dickman Records and CoolDad Music present another great evening of free music in Asbury Park's historic carousel house. Joining us this time are Brooklyn's Looms, local favorites Lowlight, and Trenton's Roy Orbitron. It will be a wonderful way to kick off your summer. Bring the family. Get some ice cream, and enjoy the sounds.

On Saturday night, Waiting On Mongo! play for free at Anchor's Bend. The rescheduled Bangs Avenue Block Party takes place starting at 11am. Defiance Engine, Intercourse, Choke Artists, and Altered Cross play Brighton Bar. There's a breast cancer benefit show at Court Tavern featuring Wolfasaurus REX, Centennials, Lowlight, and more. The Battery Electric and Nervous Triggers head up to Roxy & Dukes for a show with Nato Coles and The Blue Diamond Band and Chandeli'ers. Fortune Yeller play a free show at Scarlet Pub in New Brunswick with Sybil and Modern Sound Proposal. The relocated at the last minute Shadow of the City Festival comes to Stone Pony Summer Stage with The 1975, Carly Rae Jepsen, Frankiero and The Cellabration, and more.

It's another CoolDad Music Presents show on Saturday night at Asbury Park Yacht Club with Lyons and The Rock N Roll Hi-Fives. The show is free. The weather will be beautiful. Lyons bring along their new lead singer, Amy Malkoff; and The Rock N Roll Hi-Fives will be amped that school is out. It will be a party all around.

On Sunday, Deal Casino play APYC. Supertramp guitarist Carl Verheyen is at The Saint. Violent Femmes take over Stone Pony Summer Stage.

I hope to see you at one of our shows this weekend. If you can't make it, have a great time whatever you do.
