A beautiful Memorial Day weekend took us right into June, and the parking in Asbury Park is already a nightmare. These first few weeks of June are always jam-packed at CDMHQ with the cooldaughters' end-of-year chorus concerts, art shows, swim meets, and whatever else. I'll try to squeeze in a show here and there. There are plenty to choose from.

On Thursday night, Montclair's 73 See Gallery hosts Bubblegum Octopus, Whiner, Ultra Deluxe, Scummer, and The Great Depression. The Fifth down release their latest at Brighton Bar in Long branch with Jammerz, Hexdog, and John Sheeny Band. Morningside Lane play Montclair's Meatlocker with Steve Burks, Bobby Mahoney & The Seventh Son, and The Vansaders. The Saint has two shows with Michael Cappelluti, Tom Sangiorgio, and Alex Gousset early and GAR GAR, The Blurry Minds later. The Movement are at Wonder Bar. Chris Brown is at The Chubby Pickle in Highlands.

On Friday Night, Tony Appleseed celebrates his latest release with No More Pain, Homeless Apians, and Little Big Toe at Asbury Park Yacht Club. Airacuda play their last-ever Asbury show next door at Langosta with We're Ghosts Now. Aloha Friday moves to Beach Bar this week with music from Black Flamingos and Bongo Surf. CJ Ramone (of The Ramones, FYI) is at Brighton Bar with Broken Gold. Cachabacha play their last show at Cafe Sole in Jersey City with help from Rest Ashore, din, and dollys. Hot Blood head to Decicco's Tavern in Raritan for a free show with The Jukebox Romantics and more. pioneer the eel and NGHTCRWLRS join Youth In Bloom and Petal Head at The Funhouse in JC. Also in JC, Debra Devi, Deaf Rhino, and Pretty American hit Porta. Color Me Bushwick kicks off a weekend of activity in Brooklyn that features some friends like Sharkmuffin and Darkwing.

It's Ed The Punk Fest out in Branchburg with a whole bunch of bands celebrating Ed's graduation to adulthood on Saturday. The Asbury Park Punk Rock Flea Market is back at Convention Hall with music from TV Tramps, Smalltalk, The Fuss, and The West Kensingtons. Animal Masks, Experiment 34, Chemtrail, and Motor Heart Man are at Court Tavern. Desir Decir and The Vansaders play Jersey City's Funhouse with Dufus and Girltown. New Brunswick's Scarlet Pub features Little Rose, GayGuy/StraightGuy, Wild Americans, and pioneer the eel. Dentist (with whom I made a video recently) head up to Brooklyn's Shea Stadium for a show with San Diego's Mrs. Magician and Writer. Ohio's Vacation are on a little East Coast trip and play with Shellshag, Big Eyes, and Intrepid Hearts at Suburbia. Lowlight are at Warren American legion with Control and The Vaughns. The Race of Gentlemen kicks off in Wildwood.

Deal Casino go full band at APYC on Sunday. Psychiatric Metaphors and The Off White play The Gateway in Brooklyn with Fruit & Flowers, Wyldflowers, and Pop Empire. Willie Nile does a free in-store at Jack's in Red Bank. It's Race Day down in Wildwood for The Race of Gentlemen.

Also, it's Jersey Pride Weekend in Asbury Park, culminating with the big parade on Sunday. Red Bank Riverfest takes place all weekend in Marine Park.

Lots of stuff happening. There's gotta be something that strikes your fancy. If you see me around, come say hi and we'll bond over a few root beers.
