What's Going On: 8/4, 8/5, 8/6 & 8/7, 2016

Dentist are back at APYC on Saturday with Sharkmuffin and The Planes

August

I have an internal debate every year as to whether August or September is my favorite month. In recent years, I've been leaning toward August. It's the most relaxing month of the year for us. Swimming is on a break. School hasn't started. This first weekend of this great month has some fantastic shows.

Things get started on Thursday when Little Dickman Records and Todd-O-Phonic present Boogarins, The Ribeye Brothers, and Psychiatric Metaphors at The Saint. The Everymen kick off their tour (and they still need you to buy their stuff, so they can fix their van) at Jersey City's Monty Hall with Desir Decir and Those Pretty Wrongs. The free Jams on the Sand series continues at Anchor's Bend with The Black Lillies.

On Friday, it's Aloha Friday again at Anchor's Bend with Black Flamingos. Dark City Strings play The Asbury. MACK heads up to The Citizen in Jersey City for a show with Wastrul and Grayling. House of Independents hosts free, live-band karaoke with The Golden Boyz. Pinegrove play an early one at Monty Hall with Half Waif and Sports. Don Giovanni's Izzy True release their latest at Shea Stadium in Brooklyn with help from Haybaby, Retail Space, and Cameron Wisch. The Asbury Erotic Film Festival kicks off at The Showroom who co-present the event with Parlor Gallery. Bush are on the Summer Stage.

The latest signing to Little Dickman Records, Lost Boy?, play Alphaville in Brooklyn on Saturday with Caged Animals and Sam Yield. A bunch of our besties play APYC when Dentist, Sharkmuffin, and The Planes hit the boards. The Off White make their way up to Brooklyn's Cobra Club for a show that also features Wyldlife and Funcrusher. The RockNRoll Hi-Fives join Tara Elliott and The Red Velvets at Langosta. Summer Stage has a sold-out show with The Lumineers. Ho hey!

Deal Casino are back at APYC on Sunday. It's Chris Pierce's birthday celebration at Brighton Bar. Scarlet Pub has ManDancing, The Vaughns, and GayGuy/StraightGuy. YJY, Secret Mountain, The Duskwhales, and Lyons play The Saint. O.A.R. hit Summer Stage. Paul McCartney plays MetLife.

Have fun. Enjoy the best month of the year. See you out there.
