What's Going On: 11/10, 11/11, 11/12 & 11/13, 2016

Michael "Nuge" Nugent of Psychiatric Metaphors.

Veteran's Day

The cooldaughters are off from school for the next 2 days because of the annual NJEA convention. CoolDaughter #1 sings in our town's annual Veteran's Day event tomorrow. Thanks to all who have served this country. In addition to that, it seems like this could be a weekend when a few of us feel like rocking out to blow off some steam. You've got several chances for that kind of thing.

Starting on Thursday night, Deal Casino's Joe P plays a free show at Langosta Lounge. Young Luke Halloween heads to New Brunswick's Flavortown for an acoustic night with Yernest Boystein, Ben Phuckman, and Jake McKelvie. Paper Streets are at The Footlight in Ridgewood, Queens with Spit, Soft Fangs, and Melt. Honah Lee play their stomping grounds of MillHill Basement in Trenton with Mad Anthony. Colton Kayser, Ragged Lines, and Julian Fulton and his Zombie Gospel are at The Saint. Shonen Knife are back at Brigthon Bar.

Our friends in A Deer A Horse play Berlin NYC with Funcrusher, Great Woods, and Grace Kelly All Day on Friday. The Falcon hit Crossroads in Garwood with Mikey Erg, The Scandals, and Arms Aloft. Maine's Weakened Friends head to Hub City for a show with dollys, Toy Cars, and Rita Fishbone at Edge Mansion. The Weeklings release their debut album at House of Independents. steve. celebrate their own EP release with a show at Paradise: Lost in New Brunswick that also features Dusters, Spowder, and Ben Phuckman. John Eddie is at The Stone Pony. OWEL release their latest at The Studio at Webster Hall with The Soil & The Sun, Atlas Engine, and Vasudeva. Portland's The Thermals are at Brooklyn Bazaar for the first of two nights with The Superweaks and Heliotropes.

On Saturday, Phoebe Nix, Pam Flores, and Young Daniel Davis hit APYC for free. Rosebug celebrate the release of their debut LP at Berlin NYC with Kino Kimino, Color Tongue, and WADE. Sink Tapes are back at Brighton Bar with Animal Masks, Goat Ropes, and Stung Viragoes. NGHTCRWLRS play their record release at Cat Circus (ask) with Young Legs, Whiner, and Kult Of Mary. Animal Shapes, Eastern Anchors, and Zero For Conduct play Pino's Gift Basket in Highland Park. It's Night 2 with The Thermals at Brooklyn Bazaar, this time with Cincinnati's Tweens and Yucky Duster.

Sunday brings SWMRS to Brighton Bar with Lunch Ladies, Bettysally Bomb, and Shelter Dropouts. Noise in the Attic hosts a toy drive at The Inkwell Coffee House featuring Matthew Stephen, Phoebe Nix, Chad Morales, and Ashley McKinley. Baltimore's Wild Honey play In The West in New Brunswick with Tony Molina, Home Blitz, and Elizabeth White. Very Fresh celebrate the release of Hey, It's Me! at Shea Stadium in Brooklyn with Warcries, Casper Skulls, and Fruit & Flowers. Chris Rockwell and Friends perform License To Ill in its entirety at The Stone Pony. NGHTCRWLRS head to Sunnyvale in Brooklyn with Answering Machine, KLOZAPIN, and Early Riser.

Get out there this weekend and sweat and rage and hold your fists high. Remember and thank those who have served to give you the right to speak out and to uphold all of the things -- free speech, a free press, equal protection under the law -- that make this country great.

And, in one more important note, I'd like us all to remember Michael "Nuge" Nugent, drummer for our friends in Psychiatric Metaphors. Rest easy, Nuge. You are gone too soon. Our hearts are with you, your family, and all of your friends.
