Thanksgiving
2016 has been, in a lot of ways, an absolutely horrible, no good, very bad year. I'm sure, though, that you can find some things for which to be thankful: Your family, your friends, a great album or song or band you discovered this year, or just that you made it through. Whatever you happen to be thankful for, you can think about it while enjoying some shows this weekend. Your uncle's visiting and staying the weekend, you say? Bring him.
On Wednesday, Thanksgiving Eve, Des & The Swagmatics play a free show at The Asbury's Soundbooth. Deal Casino go full electric at APYC. Next door at Langosta, Waiting On Mongo play another free one. House of Independents hosts a "Y2K Dance Party." Not sure what that means exactly, but ok. Matt O'Ree celebrates his latest release at The Stone Pony with Shady Street Show Band and Slapback. Scott Stapp is at Wonder Bar. Danni May, Jean Pool, The Double Negatives, Whiner, Sunflower, and dollys play Montclair's Meatlocker.
Thursday is Thanksgiving. Enjoy your family. Don't talk politics. Have a few drinks. Eat tons of food. Slip into a food coma.
On Friday, Philly's St. James and The Apostles rock APYC with Grin & Bear. Remember Jones performs Back to Black in its entirety at The Stone Pony. Rockaway Bitch, the all-female Ramones tribute band, play Wonder Bar. You eat leftovers from Thursday.
Saturday is busy busy. The Asbury hosts "Surfin Around The Christmas Tree" with Blue Wave Theory and DJ Hi-Tide. The Leftovers and Brother Andrew play Asbury Park Brewery. Tony Appleseed, Phoebe Nix, and Bone & Marrow are at APYC. It's the Asbury Park tree lighting at Convention Hall with The Weeklings, The Ocean Avenue Stompers, Yawn Mower, and Nervous Triggers. Random House Publishing (ask dollys) hosts F*CK the DAPL (Seriously. F*ck that.) with The Superweaks, dollys, The Vaughns, and Puddle Splasher. Little Dickman Records bring you the "After Turkey Day Punk Revolt" at Paul's Tavern in Lake Como with TV Tramps, SICK SHIT, School Drugs, Nervous Triggers, and Damage Done.
After you drop your uncle off at the train station on Sunday, you can head to Scarlet Pub in New Brunswick for We're Ghosts Now, Bobby Mahoney & The Seventh Son, Backyard Superheroes, and The Afraid Brigade. It's opera with Jennifer Rositano for brunch at Langosta. And Gentleman Jim continues his Sunday Night Trivia run at The Asbury.
