"I Don't Mind"

Brooklyn-based Oceanator is the solo project of Elise Okusami. While working as the live drummer for Vagabon and The Adventures Of The Silver Spaceman, Okusami spent the last few years laying down tracks for Oceanator's upcoming EP at Mike Okusami's studio in Rockville, MD. The result of that work is due for digital / cassette release on February 10th, and today we're premiering single "I Don't Mind."

Okusami cites influences on Oceanator ranging from Elliott Smith to 90s grunge. "I Don't Mind" falls at the singer / songwriter, Smith-y end of that spectrum, at least in its overall feeling if not exactly its sound. A simple arrangement of acoustic guitar and keys accompanies Okusami's forlorn vocal. "I don't mind" sounds like the resigned response in the face of a growing rift between two people until, by the synth-heavy outtro, things have gone past the point of no return. When compared with the first two Oceanator singles -- the grungy "Nowhere Nothing" and the surf-poppy "Baby Won't You" -- "I Don't Mind" reveals an exciting level of songwriting versatility that immediately drew me to this project.

Stream "I Don't Mind" below. Oceanator play a release show for the EP on February 8th at Brooklyn's Alphaville with The Adventures Of The Silver Spaceman and Ghost King. Pre-orders for EP are available now at Oceanator's Bandcamp page.
