What's Going On: 2/2, 2/3, 2/4 & 2/5, 2017

Cincinnati's Vacation return to Brooklyn for another Don Giovanni Records Showcase on Friday.

The Commercials Will Be Super, I'm Sure

Super Bowl weekend! Yeah, baby! Football, food, friends, and lots and lots of Super commercials made by huge multinational corporations trying to sell us stuff. And Lady Gaga! Woo hoo!

You can start your pre-gaming on Thursday night when Deal Casino's Joe P continues his free residency at Langosta Lounge. The Plimsouls come to Brighton Bar with Sink Tapes, Goat Rope, and Swamp City Rockers. Fruit & Flowers and Ex-Girlfriends kick of their upcoming three-week, cross-country tour with a show at Brooklyn's Gutter Bar that also features our friends in Kino Kimino and The Off White. It's Night 1 one of Don Giovanni Records' (back this year) annual showcase featuring Aye Nako, Sammus, Mal Blum, Big Eyes, Izzy True, and Kissing Is A Crime at Knitting Factory BK.

After you're done making a shopping list of wings, beer, guacamole, chips, and all the ingredients for your trademark 5-alarm chili on Friday, you can head over to APYC to help Colton Kayser celebrate his birthday with Ernest and Ryan Sloan. Handsome Dick Manitoba of The Dictators NYC returns to Brighton Bar. We're Ghosts Now, Yawn Mower, and Phoebe Nix are at The Chubby Pickle in Highlands. Jim Testa releases his new covers EP (more on that in just a bit) at The Gutter Bar with NO ICE and The Regrets. Brian Fallon plays the first of two sold-out shows at House of Independents in Asbury Park. Paradise: Lost in New Brunswick hosts a fundraiser for Planned Parenthood that brings together Ghost Camp, Teenage Halloween, SICK SHIT, and The Great Depression. Avery Mandeville celebrates the release of Salty with a show at The Saint that also has Lords Of Liechtenstein, The Mercury Brothers, and Ashley McKinley. The Bitter Chills release their album at Sticks & Stones in Hawthorne with Young Legs and The One and Nines. It's Night 2 of the Don Giovanni Showcase with Lee Bains III & The Glory Fires, Shellshag, Vacation, Peter Stampfel, California X, and Painted Zeros at Knitting Factory.

Before getting all snug in your beds with visions of Budweiser Clydesdales dancing through your heads on Saturday, you can check out Accidental Seabirds, The Moonbees, and Laketon at APYC. Or you could head next door to Langosta for Lowlight, The Vaughns, and Rachel Ana Dobken. Brian Fallon plays another sold-out show at House of Independents. Avery Mandeville takes her Salty show on the road when she plays Piano's in NYC with Lords Of Liechtenstein, The Lvnguage, and Textiles. Hot Blood are in Wayne at Hobart Hall with Ted's Dead and gutter drunk. prim play their EP release at Random House with Well Wisher, Seamstress, and Bone & Marrow. Don Giovanni Records do something different this year, holding Night 3 of their showcase at Philly's First Unitarian Church with Screaming Females, Worriers, Bad Moves, Lee Bains III & The Glory Fires, and Outer Spaces.

Sunday is Super Sunday. In The West dares to hold a show featuring Open City, Spowder, SICK SHIT, Casual. I haven't seen any previews or trailers on the Internet for the commercials that will feature on that one.

Get out and enjoy some shows this weekend before the big game. And let's get that petition going to make Monday a national holiday, so we can all enjoy a football game without having to worry about work or school the next day.
