Stoked for Surf
Big, big weekend in Asbury Park with the annual "Stoked for the Summer" show from The Bouncing Souls and the return of the Asbury Park Surf Music Festival. Lots of other stuff, too.
Things get started on Thursday night when prim joins American Trappist at APYC. The Moms, Halogens, America Part Two, and Near Sight are at Asbury Park Brewery. Emily Grove, not an airplane, The Porchistas, and Bone and Marrow play the Danny Clinch Gallery at The Asbury. Nervous Triggers head up to JC for a show at The Pet Shop with Wyldlife. The Cold Seas are at Porta National Park. Dick Dale returns to Wonder Bar. House of Independents hosts a Stoked for the Summer pre-party with Dave Hause and The Mermaid, Jared Hart, and DJ Pete Steinkopf.
On Friday night, it's an Asbury Park Surf Music Festival pre-party Aloha Friday at Anchor's Bend with Bongo Surf. Von Mons, Yawn Mower, and Sun Voyager play the brewery. GayGuy / StraightGuy, Levy and The Oaks, Little Vicious, Avery Mandeville, Foes Of Fern, and Natalie Farrell celebrate the release of the second volume of the Asbury Park Summer Sampler at House of Independents. Mercury Lounge in NYC hosts a benefit for our friends over at the Signal 2 Noise radio program. That one's got Postitive No, Overlake, and St. Lenox. The Mercury Brothers and The Burns hold a joint record release party at The Saint with Cranston Dean, Sexoffice, and Rachel Ana Dobken. where is my spaceship and Joy Cleaner head to Kenilworth for a show at 10th Street Live.
Friday is also when The Bouncing Souls hit The Stone Pony's Summer Stage with Lucero, The Menzingers, and Timeshares. Afterwards, Chunksaah Records holds an after-party at APYC with Mity Lion and The Attack.
On Saturday, The Asbury Park Surf Music Festival returns to Anchor's Bend in Asbury for a full day of surf music on the beach headlined by Los Straitjackets. That night, Shady Street Show Band play APYC. The Cryptkeeper Five celebrate their latest release with a hometown show at Trenton's Millhill Basement with The Vansaders, Hot Blood, Molly Rhythm, and Bucky Harris. Mr. Payday release their own record at Pino's Gift Basket in Highland Park with help from Dentist, Sux, and Atom Driver. Lost In Society play St. Vitus in Brooklyn with Unwritten Law. Gary Clark Jr. is plays Summer Stage with Michael Kiwanuka and Tangiers Blues Band. Brick + Mortar are at Brookyn's Sunnyvale with The Moms.
APSMF hosts a "hangover pool party" at The Asbury on Sunday with Plato Zorba. That night, things move to the roof for "Point Break Comes Alive" scored live by Great White Caps. Deal Casino play their second Sunday night at APYC.
Lots of stuff going on. CoolMom and CoolDaughter #1 are still outta town, so I'm not sure what I'll be able to catch myself. Hopefully, we'll run into each other at some point.
