You Made It
2017 had its share of ups and downs, like any other year. It was a particularly tough one for the CoolFamily, and I also found it kind of hard to witness the beginning of the end of the Republic. None of that matters now, though, cause this weekend is New Year's Eve! So PARTY!
On Thursday night, Mal Blum & The Blums play Baby's All Right for free with Kino Kimino and Hiccup. Meeko Brando, Low Doses, The Carousers, and Soldiers of Suburbia are at Millhill Basement in Trenton. The Cryptkeeper 5 play Roxy & Duke's with Doc Rotten and Rough Spring. Ian Colletti returns to The Saint with Just 6 Hours. Clutch play a sold-out Starland. The Dillinger Escape Plan are at Terminal 5 in NYC with Code Orange and Daughters for the first of a two-night farewell. Wonder Bar hosts Night 1 of its year-end fest featuring Cranston Dean, The Burns, The Mercury Brothers, LEEDS, Rachel Ana Dobken, and several acoustic performances.
On Friday, Deal Casino and Haunt Club are at APYC. Cymbals Eat Guitars play Bowery Ballroom. Dave Hause and Jared Hart are at a sold-out Crossroads. Palisades come to House Of Independents. Gaten Matarazzo's Work In Progress play the first of two nights at The Stone Pony. The Felice Brothers are at White Eagle Hall in Jersey City. It's Night 2 of the year-end festival at Wonder Bar, this time with Shady Street Show Band, The Burns, Lowlight, Fun While You Wait, and We're Ghosts Now.
Saturday brings the always fun Spinal Ramones to APYC. Cymbals Eat Guitars, Charles Bissell of The Wrens, and Trü play Debonair Music Hall in Teaneck. Diarrhea Planet play the first of two nights at Rough Trade with Stuyedeyed and BODY SPRAY. It's Jaws, Hammer Fight, Negative Sky, Hot Blood, Dissentience, The Silverhounds, and Metal Life Crisis at The Saint. Work In Progress are back at The Stone Pony with Bobby Mahoney and The Seventh Son. There may still be tickets for that one. Thursday play Starland with Pup and Frank Iero and The Patience. Transparent Clinch hosts a Saturday afternoon show with Amy Klein, Foes Of Fern, and Rachel Ana Dobken.
On New Year's Eve, Remember Jones are at The Asbury before moving over for a wee hours show at The Saint. Real Esate, Whitney, and Woods play Brooklyn Steel. Southside Johnny is in Red Bank at Count Basie Theatre. Fruit & Flowers, Kino Kimino, Coco Verde, and Mima Goode play Brooklyn's Rose Gold. Diarrhea Planet are back at Rough Trade with THICK and Plastic Picnic. It's New Year's Eve 90s covers again at The Stone Pony. Tragedy play Wonder Bar. The Court Tavern hosts Shellshag, Erotic Novels, SICK SHIT, Nervous Triggers, and Speed Queen.
I hope you made some good memories in 2017, and I hope you have a healthy and peaceful 2018. Thanks for hanging with me. Let's do some more fun stuff next year. And don't drink and drive.
