September 3rd
On September 3rd, 2017, I had plans to go see some friends play at Danny Clinch's Transparent Gallery. It was a late afternoon show, and Sundays are usually pretty quiet at CDMHQ. At the last minute, though, my mother called and said she was making a pot of sauce and having the whole family over. I didn't wanna change my plans (for some reason), so CoolMom and the girls headed to my parents' while I went to see the show.
I hung out with some good friends at the gallery, took some pictures, made a couple of cool videos. I started to feel a little guilty about bailing on dinner, though; so, when the second band was done, I called over to my mom's. My brother answered the phone.
"You guys are still there?"
"Yeah," he said. "We're still here. Come over."
I said my goodbyes to everyone. Got in the car; and, in about 20 minutes, I was there. They'd saved me a "plate" in the form of a Tupperware containter full of pasta, meatballs, sausage, pork. I ate that while we all sat around laughing about stuff. We all had dessert and coffee together. After a little while, our families all went our separate ways to get ready for the coming week.
That was the last time I ever spoke to Jason.
I look back on that day often and think about how I would feel if I never decided to join everyone for dinner. I think about that day whenever I'm trying to decide if going to some show is more important than going to a dinner or a swim meet or something. And I'm grateful every day for those few hours we spent together.
Anyway...
Tell your friends and family you love them.
