Jonathan Rado Covering Born to Run in Full for Turntable Kitchen

"Thunder Road"

Turntable Kitchen have a subscription service called SOUNDS DELICIOUS. The concept is that artists choose a favorite album to cover, front to back; and then Turntable Kitchen presses it onto limited edition vinyl. The service's first release featured Yumi Zouma's take on (What's the Story) Morning Glory? by Oasis. Next up is a full-length cover of Bruce Springsteen's Born to Run by Foxygen's Jonathan Rado. Yesterday, we got the first single in the form of album-opener "Thunder Road."

Foxygen made their name mining the sounds of 70s FM radio, and Rado's "Thunder Road" is a faithful cover of the 1975 original. Now, I have spent many, many, many hours listening to Born to Run. I know just about every little moment on the record; so, when Rado sings, "trade in these wings FOR some wheels" instead of "ON some wheels," I notice; but that's just nerding out by me. Even the fact that I had to point out to you that I noticed is kind of annoyingly nerdy.

Anyway.

Rado does a great job on this one. The rest will be available May 12th as part of the Turntable Kitchen SOUNDS DELICIOUS subscription service.
