Spring!
It's been a rough couple of days here on the CoolFamily vacation. I was hit hard by some kind of virus or food poisoning or something, and I spent the last two days watching everyone come and go from the beach / pool from my hotel bed. That's all over now, and I'm ready to make the most of our last few days of Spring Break. You've also got plenty of opportunities to celebrate spring up there in the Northeast.
You can start on Thursday night when Lunch Ladies head up to The Gateway in Brooklyn to play with New England Axe Factory, Ghost Pressure, and Flying Dead. Remember Jones is also in Brooklyn with Brielle Von Hugel. Overlake play Piano's in NYC. Closer to home, it's We're Ghosts Now, Splenderson, Downstream, and The Slims at The Saint.
On Friday night, The Amboys, Levy & The Oaks, Accidental Seabirds, and Justin William Roberts play The Asbury for free. Pamela Flores, Fast Clare, and Joe Parella hit APYC. Ex-Girlfriends and The Off White are at BerlinNYC with Cafe Racer and The Rubs. Lunch Ladies are back home for a great one at The Brighton in Long Branch with The Garden, Fat Tony, and Spowder. dollys play The Bunker with Hodera, GKM, Offkey Lifestyle, and Secret Mountain. Hub City Brewhouse hosts a Hub City Music Festival event to benefit Elijah's Promise featuring The Do Rights and The Mad Notes. Acid Dad and Honduras play Wonder Bar with The Tide Bends.
Also on Friday, our good friend and inspiration, Jim Testa, celebrates 35 years of Jersey Beat at Maxwell's Tavern in Hoboken. That one features many of the artists who have graced the pages of the influential 'zine like Richard Barone, Glenn Morrow, The Cucumbers, Tris McCall, and more. Having done this for 5 years, I can only marvel at Jim's dedication and longevity. Congrats!
On Saturday, Seaside Caves celebrate the release of their excellent Hope at Asbury Park Music Foundation with Mytilion and Holiday. Fruit & Flowers play Baby's All Right in Brooklyn with Varsity and Petite League. The Great Albums Podcast hosts another New Hope Takeover at John & Peter's with The Paper Jets, Lowlight, Jesse Elliot & The Falconaires, The Vaughns, and Brian Rothenbeck. One you don't want to miss if you don't have other plans is Austin's Sweet Spirit and Brooklyn's BOYTOY at Monty Hall in Jersey City. Pino's in Highland Park hosts another Hub City Music Fest Event with Secretary Legs, Spowder, Secret Mountain, and Atom Driver. Gogol Bordello are at The Stone Pony.
Saturday also marks the return home for both The RockNRoll HiFives and Shut Up! As luck would have it, CoolDad Music is bringing you a free show that includes both of them at APYC. Come on out to that one to say welcome back.
Easter Sunday finds EVL MOMMZ, Astro B0y, Old Fox Road, Stufy, and C Is For Cadaver playing Montclair's Meatlocker.
