"Tomorrow" / "Winter Here"

In a sea of noise, shoegaze, punk, pop, surf, and every combination of those things -- which, as you know, I absolutely love -- Brooklyn's Looms stand out for their eclectic set of influences. Sometimes folky, sometimes jazzy, sometimes electronic, sometimes almost even easy listening, Looms pick and choose whatever sounds they need to tell their story.

The band -- Sharif Mekawy (vocals, keys, guitar), A Hammond Murray (bass), Harry Morris Jr. (guitar), and Louis Cozza (drums) -- are preparing to release their second full length, How It Has to Be, with Little Dickman records on August 4th. They've revealed a couple of singles over the last few weeks, and I wanted to share them with you here.

Interestingly, the singles "Tomorrow" and "Winter Here" are almost polar opposites. The upbeat 70s-sounding pop of "Tomorrow" is trying to be hopeful with lyrics like "We shall both be fine / We will see tomorrow / Things will turn around / Falling into places." "Winter Here," on the other hand, is darker, full of loneliness as Mekawy sings, "End of the day / Has brought you away / You can't stand another winter here."

Looms will be heading out on tour in support of How It Has to Be, winding things up with a yet-to-be-announced show in Asbury Park.
